Police condemn drink drivers in the snow

Young motorists reported for speeding and drink-driving are not only risking their young driver insurance but are also risking facing the wrath of Grampian Police who have strongly condoned their 'reckless' driving.

With freezing temperatures making road conditions treacherous, Grampian Police have made a point of criticising the behaviour of the drivers.

Young motorists caught by the police included a young man doing 85mph in a 60mph area and overtaking vehicles in a "dangerous" manner on the A96 near Elgin.

Road Safety Manager Leslie Harrold said, "Despite our previous warnings about driving at high speed in the current wintry conditions, some drivers still choose to ignore that advice.

"Many were young drivers and some ended up being involved in collisions. Driving at high speed in any weather condition is dangerous, but doing it when temperatures are just hovering above freezing is reckless."

Not only is driving in such a manner putting motorists' young driver insurance at risk, but it also is putting their own and other road users' lives in danger too.
