3 out of 10 drivers admit sat nav racing

3 out of 10 young drivers aged 25 and under are putting their young driver insurance at risk by competing with their sat navs to beat the estimated time of arrival. The survey held by Autoglass was completed by more than 3,000 UK motorists, 10% of which admitted to having already received penalty points or a fine because of their satellite navigation 'challenge'.

Male drivers were found to be worse than female drivers with 45% of male motorists confessing to trying to beat the ETA by speeding compared with 30% of female drivers.25% of men also admitted that they were more likely to try and beat the sat nav if they are alone in the car. 17% of 17- 18 year old drivers confessed that they have already got penalty points or a fine for being caught speeding because of the challenge. Aberystwyth, Wolverhampton and London were the top three towns and cities where the challenge was found to be the most popular.

Drivers competing in the 'race' are set to face increased premiums, or even the loss of their young driver insurance if they continue speeding and breaking the law to try and win the sat nav challenge.
