Irish road rage is rife for 18-24s

A new survey in Ireland has revealed that male buyers of young driver's car insurance are the group most likely to be targeted in instances of road rage.

According to the Irish Independent, almost three-in five young male drivers, aged between 18-24 years of age, have been the victim of a road rage type incident in the past year.

The survey, based on a poll of 2,011 drivers, revealed those aged over 65 were the least likely to fall foul of other road users and were also the group least likely to become aggressive in a driving situation.

Tailgating was the driving behaviour most likely to cause a road rage incident, followed by pulling out of a junction in error. Changing lanes without indicating proved the next most unpopular driving habit with slow drivers proving slightly less frustrating.

Some motorists even admitted to becoming enraged by over-revving at traffic lights.

A spokesperson for Hoot, specialist provider of car insurance for young drivers, said, "Unfortunately, it appears that many of our customers are stereotyped because of their age. We would advise all young motorists to drive with due care and attention at all times.

"Getting involved in a road rage incident could prove costly on renewal of your young driver's car insurance."
