Whilst the new electric cars are far more environmentally friendly, concerns have been raised over their quiet engine noise which could not only cause a rise in young driver's car insurance claims, but also increase pedestrian and cyclist casualties on the roads due to the cars' rather too deadly silence.
However, the HALOsonic car sound system has come up with an answer for this problem, providing artificial engine noises to alert other road users of the car's presence.
Rather like choosing a ringtone on a mobile, the system comes equipped with various different sound modes to replace the absent engine noise.
These include 'futuristic' mode which sounds like a space ship from star wars, 'American V8' which will make your saintly green car sound like a petrol-guzzling speed machine and the 'V12' mode which will make your car sound like a boeing 747.
With the sound of V12 engine coming up behind, no cyclist or pedestrian is ever likely to miss a car fitted with a HALOsonic coming along. However whether it will cause more car insurance claims as people crash due to the distraction it creates or whether it actually prevents young driver's car insurance claims being made is yet to be seen.
