Young men must pay more than young women
Sex and age discrimination is alive and well in the insurance
business with young
drivers insurance premiums for men staying much higher
than policies for young women.
Car drivers who are men can expect to pay out almost £17k
more than women on motor
insurance in their lifetime, according to a study just
published.
Three key pieces of the research by an insurance aggregator
website reveals:
- Males of all ages pay an average of just over £740
a year while female motorists enjoy lower premiums of around
only £450.
- Young men aged 18 must pay motor cover that is almost
£2000 higher, on average, than for male drivers in
their 40s.
- The average male driver in his 20s must pay almost £1000
for a motoring policy while women pay a little less than
half that at £576.
A staggering 94 per cent of people convicted of causing death
by dangerous driving were men while 97 per cent of drivers convicted
of a dangerous driving traffic offence were also found to be
men.
Insurers are allowed to determine policy price using age and sex factors so young drivers insurance for males is likely to stay higher than females for the foreseeable future - and unless men become safer drivers, that maybe forever!
