Cheaper cover with an advanced driver test

An 18-year-old motorist from the Isle of Man has managed to save a large chunk on his young drivers insurance by completing an Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAM) advanced driving test and becoming the youngest advanced driver on the island.

A spokesperson for the Island's Roads Policing Unit, said, "It's commendable that someone of [his] age has shown the initiative to improve his driving.

"He is an example to other motorists his own age and all road users in the Island.'"

Even though the young driver falls into the 16-22 age group and, as such, amongst those most likely to have a car accident, his car insurance for young driver's premium has reduced by 10 per cent, saving him £160.

He said, "I took the advanced test because young drivers get such bad press. I knew this course would reduce my chances of having an accident and lower my premiums.

"There's lots of pressure in the normal driving test because you only care about passing. But there's less fear in the advanced test because you're already a driver.'"

A spokesperson for Hoot, specialist providers of young drivers insurance, said, "Taking an IAM certified test can help improve your chances of getting cheap car insurance even further by greatly increasing your chances of keeping and building your no-claims bonus during each year of motoring."
