Young driver's insurance put at risk by drag racing

Young drivers are putting their lives and chances of cheap young driver's insurance at risk with the impromptu racing sessions that are becoming more and more frequent across Britain's disused industrial estates.

Police had to be called at South Lancs Industrial Estate after around 100 young drivers were reported to be driving at high speeds around the estate causing chaos for local residents. As the meets grow in popularity, local residents are becoming increasingly concerned that the high speed races will result in tragedy.

One local resident remarked, "It's the speed they are driving at. It is absolutely stupid to put their lives at risk. It's very dangerous."

Local ward councilor Gary Wilkes is trying to persuade the Metro's Highway Department to install traffic calming measures along the strip of road to try and dissuade the young motorists from these illegal races. It is hoped that once the measures have been put in place, the young drivers will stop putting their lives and their young drivers insurance at risk.
