Free advanced driver training courses for young drivers are now offered in the north of England as part of a project set up in memory of a 17-year-old lad who died in a car crash.
Thomas Croft died after his car hit trees near his Yorkshire home about a year ago. As a result, his mother Amanda established a scheme to help give free advanced driving to young motorists.
Mrs Croft is encouraging all young people to take part in free courses arranged by the Institute of Advanced Motorists after her son's death.
North Yorkshire County Council and a community safety partnership worked with Mrs Croft to found the Thomas Croft Young Driver Project.
The county council claims it is "working hard" to prevent young drivers being killed and injured on north Yorkshire roads, although accident statistics show there has been a 59% increase in fatal and serious crashes involving young people across the region over the past year.
