Online car insurance firm advises against mobile useThe AA is advising those people who are still using a mobile phone whilst driving to expect a substantial hike in the price of their motor insurance premiums if they are caught. In common with other online car insurance firms, the AA warns it will take more notice of this particular crime after 27 February 2007, when it becomes an endorsable offence. Instead of the old £30 fine, drivers who are spotted taking or making calls after this date will be stung with 3 penalty points and £60 to pay under tough new government legislation. In most cases, but especially with a second offence, the online car insurance firm involved will match the government's fine and triple it - potentially adding a substantial amount to the offender's premium until the points are spent. "There is . an irrefutable link between the use of mobile telephones and claims, so insurers will take this issue seriously," said AA spokesperson Janet Pell. "You are risking your life and the lives of others if you use a mobile phone - whether hands-free or not - in your car," she added.
