Motor insurance news 26/07/2007
Surfers want more than online car insuranceWhile the popularity of online car insurance continues to rise, UK motorists say they are hungry for more driving resources on the internet, according to the latest DirectGov survey. The public services website says virtual MOTs, online driving licence renewals and facilities for finding out a car's history are all high on the list of priorities for today's net-friendly drivers. Besides the car insurance companies, many other driving-related websites have seen greatly increased traffic in recent times. For example, DirectGov found that as many as 38 percent of motorists consult web-based route planners such as Google Maps and StreetFinder before setting off on an unfamiliar journey. 18 to 24-year-olds make up the demographic that is most likely to use online car insurance sites and other internet services. When asked what other motoring resources they'd like to see online in the future, 15 percent of those surveyed said they'd like to report dangerous driving - which could be a reflection of the current high rate of road accidents amongst this age group. "Today's motorists have embraced the internet's wide range of generally cheaper and more convenient services with open arms," said Mike Page, spokesman for the online car insurance experts at Hoot Car Insurance Services.
