Buy online car insurance with other cover, says financial service site

New research from the financial services comparison site MoneyExpert.com reveals that consumers can be as much as 40 percent better off when they combine online car insurance with other insurance products from the same provider.

This staggering discount is applied to certain firms' buildings and contents insurance when customers purchase it along with their motor insurance.

However, not all online car insurance providers offer loyalty discounts.

"With more than 190 comprehensive motor insurance policies on the market it's surprising how few offer any kind of discount for multiple purchases," said Sean Gardener, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com.

In fact, as few as 13 percent of car insurance firms offer a loyalty discount for people who bulk-buy different insurance covers from them.

"If customers like and trust an insurer than the firm can afford to offer discounts," said Gardener. Regarding the other 87 percent, he added: "Loyalty should count for more."
