In the UK, we are used to looking for many car-related things on the net, from online car insurance quotes to the best used car buys. However, in Montana, a new system means that drivers can do even more online - check their driving records.
Using the Motor Vehicle Division's system, motorists can check out what speeding tickets they have received as well as the details of any accidents they have been involved in.
An administrator of the system explained that people can use it "just to check your own record to see if a ticket got put on or didn't get put on."
He went on: "There may be cases where you have gone to court on a speeding ticket and you might want to check to see if the judge sent it to us and put it on your record or not."
However, a number of people other than private drivers can also use the system to check up on records. Private investigators, employers and even the parents of teenage motorists can see the relevant records.
Mike Page, of the cheap motor insurance experts at Hoot Car Insurance Services, said: "While many drivers may appreciate being able to look at their motoring history, the fact that others may also be able to see it may not go down so well.
"I haven't heard of any similar system being brought to the UK in the near future - we shall just have to stick to online car insurance."
