Online car insurance comparison service applauds ABI crackdown on the uninsured

The online car insurance comparison site Moneysupermarket.com has spoken out in favour of a recent legal crackdown by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), targeted at uninsured drivers in the UK.

Through a change of wording in certain key policy documents, ABI writers have made it impossible for legitimate motorists to collect impounded cars and return them to uninsured owners. Previously, car insurance policyholders with a 'drive other cars' provision had been using this scam to get uninsured friends back on the road.

"We applaud this crackdown by the ABI," said Richard Mason, a spokesman for the online car insurance service. "This demonstrates the ABI's recognition of how big a problem uninsured drivers are posing."

The ABI has assured drivers that legal use of the 'drive other cars' clause will not be affected by their revisions.
