Peugeot take to the trackPeugeot has something very much in common with the Hoot Car Insurance Services team, a passion for motorsports. We recently took a trip down to Thruxton to watch some boys in fast cars thrash them around the track and we would love nothing more than to take a trip Monaco to smell that rubber burn, if only. But anyway back to reality, Peugeot and motorsports.
An involvement with motorsports has been long-lived for Peugeot and started back in 1894 when, after entering five cars for the Paris-Rouen Trials, one of them finished second. Then in a flash of glory Peugeot won the 1912 French Grand Prix held at Dieppe. Peugeot's participation in a multitude of motorsports continued until World War I. Since the beginning of the 20th Century Peugeot has taken its relationship with motorsport from rallies to Formula One and to every motor racing event in between.
After such a successful start, Peugeot have competed in four Paris-Dakar Rallies between 1987 and 1990 and returned home with no less than four victories. In 1990 the programme included Paris – Tripoli – Dakar and of the four cars entered by Peugeot, two 405 Turbo 16s and two 205 turbo 16s, the first three spots were snaffled. Ari Vatenen claimed 1st place and Bjorn Waldegaard 2nd in their super-quick 405s and Alain Ambronsino came in third in his speedy 205. It was then time to get racing with the big boys. Peugeot pulled up into the pit lanes in the early 1990s and decided to try their hand at providing engines to Formula One teams. They made it to the winners stand with McLaren no less than eight times during the 1994 Brazil Grand Prix and teamed up with Jordan during 1995-1997 but the results were not so celebrated. It wasn't until 1998 that the French car manufacture saw a turn around with Prost on the track but 2000 saw a Peugeot-powered Formula One car pass the chequered flag for the last time. The 905 brought Peugeot to victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours race in both 1992 and 1993 and then the French car people pulled up in second place with the 908 diesel powered engine in the 2007 race that took place from the 16th-17th June. Fancy yourself as the next Lewis Hamilton or want to give Schumacher a run for his money? No doubt you will need a great deal on your Peugeot car insurance and there is no need to look any further.
