Footballer Ronaldo in Ferrari damage claim

Cheap car insurance for young drivers is a whole different ball game for international footballer Christiano Ronaldo who crashed a £200,000 Ferrari early in the new year.

The Manchester United midfielder is said to have caused £20,000 of damage to an airport tunnel when the smash happened in January.

On his way to the team's training ground near Sale, the world-renowned Portuguese player wrote off the Ferrari Spider after reportedly losing a wheel and bouncing off tunnel walls.

United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar was driving behind Ronaldo before the crash and gave him a lift to training, according to media accounts.

While it might be alarming for most young drivers to be in such a crash and insurance claim, the football ace, said to be 23 years old, walked away apparently unhurt from the accident.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said, "Part of the airport's infrastructure was damaged in a road traffic accident."

It was usual practice for its insurers to contact a third party's insurance company after such incidents.

If Ronaldo had secured cheap car insurance for young drivers when taking ownership of the Ferrari, it is highly likely he may now face a steep rise in his next premium.
