15-year-old driver arrested for being too young

A 15-year-old girl who bought a Ford Granada and took it out for a spin in her home town has blighted her chances of getting a cheap car insurance rate when she is old enough to drive legally.

The Oxfordshire teen bought the car from a school friend because it seemed like a 'good idea', she told Swindon Youth Court.

Despite being at least two years away from holding a valid licence or young driver car insurance, she spent the following evening driving around Swindon with another friend.

Police caught up to the girl parked outside a Tesco supermarket at around 2am the next morning.

In court, she said: "It was a very stupid thing to do, I don't really know why we did it."

"I won't do it again if I ever get a licence," she added, logically.

The girl was given a three-month referral order and six penalty points, which will make it very hard for her to find an affordable young driver car insurance policy in a couple of years.
