Man may never qualify again for young driver car insurance
Cheap car insurance for young drivers is always difficult to find. However, by the time a Cumbrian man is legally allowed back on UK roads again, he may not even qualify for young driver car insurance. Bryan Cunningham, 21 and from Thornhill, was seen driving his red Peugeot crazily through a Workington housing estate in August 2006. He drove quickly up behind a female driver and overtook as she pulled over to the side of the road fearful that he would crash into the back of her. The lady told Whitehaven Magistrates' Court that she had noted that the driver was male, in his 20s and wearing a yellow T-shirt at the time. She also confirmed that she was 90% certain it was Mr Cunningham. Then, according to a witness who was in a play park with her children, he crashed into a householder's wall while in the process of doing handbrake turns in the nearby road. He then reversed onto the wrong carriageway and drove off before spinning the car again. Betty Findley, who was walking her dogs in the area, described how Mr Cunningham had abandoned the car nearby. She said: "The driver had a yellow top, he jumped a gate and ran. The passenger was in a red top and walked off down the road using a mobile." He was arrested soon afterwards and charged with dangerous driving, driving while banned, driving without car insurance, failing to provide a specimen of breath or blood, and two counts of failing to stop after accidents. The court found him guilty of all these offences and may arrange for the young driver to be sent to the Crown Court for sentencing. Mike Page, of the young driver car insurance company Hoot Car Insurance Services, said: "It is highly likely that he will receive a further driving ban, although whether he will abide by the court's sentence this time is anyone's guess."
