Young driver's car crushed by his own motherAn 18-year-old from Richmond, New Zealand has been spared the expense of young driver car insurance by his mother, who had his car crushed in a bid to curb his dangerous driving. Officials at Nelson District Court heard that the woman was sick of her son 'getting into trouble with his car', and had the souped-up vehicle destroyed for his own sake. However, the boy's extreme reaction was enough to land him in front of the judge on charges of threatening behaviour, intentional damage and resisting police. He has been sentenced to 200 hours of community work and a nine month supervision order. Besides that, the unemployed teen has been banned from driving or owning a car for the next nine months. "Modified cars are expensive for any driver to insure, but for those with a criminal record it's particularly hard to find cheap car insurance," said Mike Page, spokesman for the young driver car insurance experts at Hoot Car Insurance Services. "It can't have done their relationship much good, but crushing the car should at least ensure the son is kept off the roads for the foreseeable future," he added.
