Scottish Pass Plus means cheap young driver car insurance
The Scottish Executive is pinning its hopes for safer driving on a scheme which promises cheap young driver car insurance for motorists in the north east of the country. The north east has a higher proportion of fatal accidents involving 17 to 25 year olds than any other Scottish region, and previous attempts to address the problem have met with little success. However, it's thought that offering a financial incentive to drive safely will have the desired effect on cash-strapped Scottish drivers. For a six-month trial period, the Executive has introduced a subsidy in Moray, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire that substantially reduces the price of a Pass Plus driver training course, from £150 down to as little as £15 if it's combined with the grants offered by local authorities. For this small sum and a little application, drivers in these areas can make themselves considerably safer at the wheel. And because the Pass Plus course is statistically proven to reduce the rate of accidents and fatalities in drivers, people who take it can expect to be rewarded with a substantial saving in the price of their young driver car insurance. The chance of discounted motor insurance is a pretty powerful incentive, and Scottish Transport Minister Tavish Scott is working with insurers to make sure they keep up their end of the bargain. "We hope that [car] insurance companies, in collaboration with running this kind of course, can indeed provide that kind of incentive," he said.
