Bosses at CIS Motor Insurance have warned that drivers under 25 could soon be priced out of the market unless something is done to check the soaring price of young driver car insurance.
They're blaming the high rate of deaths and serious injures among young motorists for a 22 percent rise in the cost of young driver car insurance over the past three years.
"If this trend continues, many young car owners will be unable to afford insurance," said David Neave, director of general insurance at CIS.
"The impact of serious road traffic crashes not only affects people's lives but also has a considerable effect on future premium levels. We have a duty to try and prevent future losses, which in turn will make motor insurance more affordable, especially for young inexperienced drivers."
CIS is already taking steps to raise awareness among young motorists. Working together with road safety organisation Brake, the car insurance firm has produced an educational program for school-age drivers called "Too Young to Die".
